Belcaro
Located just south of Cherry Creek and east of Bonnie Brae rests the Belcaro neighborhood, named after the historic Phipps House, "Belcaro" which means "beautiful dear one" in Italian. Lawrence C. Phipps, treasurer of Carnegie Steel and a U.S. Senator, spent $310,063 in 1932, having Charles A. Platt and sons design the spacious 33,123-square-foot, 54-room red brick Georgian mansion located on 5 acres at 3400 Belcaro Drive. It is currently a museum and conference center, after being dontated to the University of Denver in 1964.
